Migrating to a New Server
(Copying files, ownership/rights, and NDS)

Our current production file server is running on Netware 4.1, but now that the Netwaer 6.5 box was ready, it is time to migrate via unconventional means.

There is a great program called trustee.nlm that will read trustee information from a volume and output it to a file. Try typing LOAD TRUSTEE.NLM /ET /D SAVE SYS:\ SYS:\OUTPUT1.TXT to just get directory information.. According to this document, running LOAD TRUSTEE SAVE ALL SYS:\TRUSTEE.TXT will also create a single file with trustee information from ALL volumes currently mounted on the server. This program can also be used to do things like saving and restoring trustee rights or even removing all of them, starting from a given path. It can also analyze NDS rights very nicely - try typing LOAD TRUSTEE.NLM EXCESSNDS SYS:\OUTPUT1.TXT. Take a look at TID2971887 for a list of options or to download. Here is another document about using trustee.nlm.

NDSRestore utility

dsrepair

Trustbar.nlm - Backs up and restores all file system rights on a particular volume to an XML file. Can also remove ALL file system rights. Included w/NW65, but does not work with Netware 4.x.
